Evangeline M. Mitchell is the principal of The Law Offices of Evangeline M. Mitchell, PLLC. She is a graduate of Prairie View A&M University, the University of Iowa College of Law, and the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.
While a law student, Evangeline earned membership on The Iowa Law Review and served as law-related education chair of Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity. She interned at Shell Oil Company in Houston, Texas and served as a research assistant for Dean N. William Hines and Professor Herbert Hovenkamp at the University of Iowa College of Law in Iowa City, Iowa. Evangeline worked as a legal extern to Elroy Claxton, a British barrister/trial lawyer in London, England, studied law in the Iowa-Bordeaux International and Comparative Law Summer Program in Arcachon, France and spent a semester studying law abroad in London, England as a participant in the London Law Consortium. Moreover, she studied law for a term at the University of Houston Law Center where she was given the Outstanding Community Service Award by the University of Houston Black Law Students Association.
Prior to her law practice, Evangeline worked as a team teacher alongside Japanish English instructors for oral communication courses in different high schools in and near Kashiwazaki, Niigata in Japan including Kashiwazaki Koko, Kashiwazaki Shogyo Koko, Oguni Bunko and Noetsu Technical High School. At her base high school, she taught speech and debate and served as advisor to the English club. Evangeline taught evening conversational English classes to community members and Kashiwazaki City Hall staff workers. During her two year work experience in Japan, she served as a workshop leader for regional teacher training conferences for the Niigata Prefectural Board of Education and was invited from a competitive pool to lead and moderate workshops for the Japan Exchange and Teachers Programme (JET) Renewers' Conference. Additionally, Evangeline gained experience in higher education administration and research at Harvard University working in the Harvard College Admissions Office, the Harvard Medical School Office of Recruitment and Multicultural Affairs, and for the Harvard University National Campus Diversity Project.
Through her independent publishing company, Hope's Promise Publishing, Evangeline has authored, edited, and published books dealing with law school admissions, the law school experience, and the bar exam. She is also the founder and organizer of The National Black Pre-Law Admissions & Preparation Conference and the upcoming National Black College Student Success Conference. Evangeline mentors numerous persons interested in pursuing a college and professional legal education and is the founder of www.forfutureblacklawstudents.com and www.blackesquire.com - websites dedicated to current and aspiring Black lawyers.
In addition to her formal studies, Evangeline is a lifelong student of the Spanish language. In recent years, she has studied Spanish and Mexican culture in Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Oaxaca, Oaxaca, Apan, Hidalgo, and Mexico City, Districto Federal.
Evangeline is licensed to practice law by the Supreme Court of Texas and is a member of the Houston Bar Association, the Houston Young Lawyers Association, the Houston Lawyers Association, and the Texas Young Lawyers Association.
