Corey D. B. Walker is Assistant Professor of Africana Studies and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Africana philosophy, critical theory, modern theology, and cultural studies. His research revolves around a series of critical investigations into the philosophical and theological problems of modern thought and political practice.

Prior to joining the faculty at Brown in 2006, Walker was Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Virginia (2003-2006), Director of the Center for the Study of Local Knowledge at the University of Virginia (2002-2003), and Visiting Professor at the Historisches Institut at Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena in Germany (2002).

Walker is the author of the soon to be released book, "A Noble Fight": African American Freemasons and the Struggle for Democracy in America (University of Illinois Press, October 2008) and is now completing his second book, Between Transcendence and History: Theology, Race, and the Politics of Liberation. He also serves as an Associate Editor of The Journal of the American Academy of Religion the top academic journal for the study of religion.

Walker currently serves on the National Political Committee of the Democratic Socialists of America, the United Stat! es affiliate of the Socialist International.
